Jonathan Ive, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Industrial Design, has been named as the 11th most influential non-elected person in Britain by The Guardian newspaper.

Ive was sandwiched between the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, and the General Secretary of the TUC, Brendan Barber. He beat Harry Potter author, JK Rowling by two places, but was two spots behind supermodel and Babyshambles’ groupie, Kate Moss.

The Guardian noted that ‘his iPod design turned a fringe technology device – the MP3 player – into a much coveted object of desire,’ and that although he no longer lives in Britain ‘he’s way more influential in the world of products and design than anyone resident here.’

The list was an updated version of the original which was published in February and was amended to take account of nominations from Guardian readers. Tearry Leahy, Chief Executive of Tesco, came top, followed by Mervyn King, Governer of the Bank of England, and Dail Mail Editor, Paul Dacre. The Queen was fourth, one place ahead of Simon Cowell.
