Apple updates MacBook, Mac community yawns

May 15th, 2007 · No Comments

As predicted by Think Secret, Apple today updated its MacBook range. Also as predicted, the update was largely uninspiring. MacUser got in early with the news.

Slightly faster processors, bigger hard drives, more RAM in the low-end model, and 802.11n (technically pre-n as 802.11n is still a draft and yet to be ratified) wireless networking.

What intrigues me far more than the new specs is why does Apple insist on taking the online store down for two hours each time it announces one of these updates? It can be purely technical, any dufus could update a database offline and hit the big red ‘GO’ button at the alloted time. That leads to the assumption that it’s part of the Steve Jobs’ style of showmanship and news management. But at that time of the morning, I mean, does anyone really care?
