Granted most consumers won't be able to tell the difference between an S-IPS and a TN screen, but us who own previous generation iMacs can. I have an old 20" G4 (sunflower) iMac and the white 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo 20" iMac. Both of which have better screens than the new 20" aluminum iMac. I was expecting the same quality with the new one and was gravely disappointed.

A very good post, and I'd agree with the consclusion; I had a very interesting meeting with a chap from Viewsonic recently during which different TFT display technologies was explained to me. Okay, so very interesting was putting it a bit strongly.

Also: you deserve to be flogged for that headline.
